A Palestinian is being charged for attacking a money transport vehicle and stealing Dh900,000  after using a taser on the driver and his companion, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

HA, 37, allegedly committed the crime with two others, AA and JK, who have already been convicted and given three years in jail, each, followed by deportation.

According to the records, On October 13, 2013, at around 11am, WM, 28, a Ugandan security guard and his colleague MG, 24, a Nepali, headed to Lulu village at Al Muhaisnah area to fill an ATM with money.

“We reached there and stopped the car, then I carried the bag that contained needed tools to open the ATM, while my colleague carried a bag containing Dh900,000,” WM told investigators.

Before entering the centre, the two were attacked.

“One of the attackers punched me in the face so I lost my balance and fell on the street and he stole the bag which contained the tools,” WM testified.

The other man attacked MG with a taser and snatched the bag which contained Dh900,000.

The attackers ran away and the victims called the police who arrived at the scene and launched investigations.

The victims ran after the attackers and supplied the police with the number plate of the car in which they drove away recklessly.

Police spotted the car being used in Industrial Area 10. The car belonged to a trade company.

Opening the car, the police found the two bags and the taser, testified Lieutenant Mohammed Ahmad.

Police learnt that two of the accused resided in the Al Nakheel area.

On October 18, last year, police arrested the two and confiscated Dh30,000 from their flat.

The accused admitted to attacking the money transport car and stealing the amount. They also confessed that they transferred their share of the money to their home country.

They committed the crime with the assistance of two others, they said, one who drove the car and a fourth who planned the crime.

With the help of a money transfer company that the two used, police confiscated Dh473,527.

The Criminal Evidence department which examined the car found that the DNA on the steering wheel matched that of a Palestinian, whose finger prints were on the CID system since June 1995.

The accused had a criminal record and had been convicted, in absentia.

On July 12, 2015, police raided a flat in the Al Muraqqabat area and arrested the Palestinian.

The court will reconvene on November 2.
