A 16-year-old Emirati boy became the latest victim of a series of scooter accidents in the UAE when he suffered from a fracture in the backbone after falling off hoverboard in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dhareef was riding his scooter on Al Qawassim Corniche in the northern emirate when he lost balance and banged into his brother who was scooting behind him.

“Dhareef cannot now has a normal life after suffering from a fracture in his backbone,” his mother said, quoted by Dubai-based Emarat Al Youm daily.

She said the other brother suffered from light injuries, adding that doctors told her that Dhareef would recover within six months without a surgery given his young age.

The paper quoted a RAK police spokesman as saying using the “smart scooter” on the emirate’s roads is a traffic offence as it endangers the lives of road users.
