In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old Emirati boy died after he was run over by a taxi in Umm Al Quwain, according to an official in the Traffic and Patrol Department of Umm Al Quwain Police.
Arab daily Al Khaleej reported that the accident occurred on King Faisal Road in the emirate. When the boy was crossing the road, he allegedly did not pay much attention to oncoming traffic.
The child died on the spot due to the strength of the impact of the crash despite the efforts of the traffic patrol and the ambulance.
The Department called on the drivers to take precautions, especially in crowded areas, in order to prevent the loss of lives.
Parents were also urged to keep an eye on their children at all times.
16-year-old dies after being hit while crossing the road
A 16-years-old Syrian girl died in a car accident near Al Nahda in Sharjah, according to Al Khaleej newspaper.
The police reported that the accident occurred when the young girl was crossing the road from a place not marked for pedestrians.
Major Mohammed Al Shehhi, Director of Media Affairs at Sharjah Police confirmed that the Sharjah Police control room received information of an accident at around 9pm.
He added that an Indian driver who was coming from Al Tawun roundabout towards Al Nahda ran over the young girl.
The young girl was seriously injured and immediately taken to Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah for treatment but died of her injuries.
