Terry Fox Run to be held in Dubai on April 27

Recognized as the largest single day fundraiser for cancer research in the world with its much-needed philanthropic contributions, the Terry Fox run will return to Dubai for its 18th edition on Friday, April 27, at The Palm Jumeirah.

In keeping with the informal and all-inclusive tradition that Terry Fox has become synonymous with, the run will bring thousands of residents and visitors of all ages together whether to walk, run, bicycle, any desired length of scenic route.

Since its inception the run has raised more than Dh7 million for cancer research as one of the Emirates foremost charity fundraising events – successfully fuelling and completing a total number of 16 research projects in its work with the UAE University with eight new projects that have changed and continue to impact the lives of patients and their families of the UAE. This year’s Run will be supported by the Dubai Sports Council and under the auspices of the Maktoum Foundation.

“The Terry Fox is more than a run; it is an initiative that has inspired and given hope to millions around the world and contributing to local and international medical research in search of a cure for cancer,” said Dr. Frank Branicki,  Chair, Department of Surgery –and Cancer Research Coordinator, UAE University. “Projects supported by these funds includes research into leukemia and various types of cancers, cancer prevention, cancer gene therapy and chemotherapy treatment.” 

Participation is free, but donations are encouraged with 100% of all proceeds going towards UAE-based cancer research.

Registration for the run will begin at 7am and it’ll start at 8.30am from Atlantis Hotel. It will be an 8.0km, 4.6 or 3.2km scenic route with activities and entertainment for the family. For the first time, a longer run route of 15 km is also offered for advanced runners. It’s open to all group individuals, adults, children and students can walk, run, bicycle. But due to running surface of this year’s venue rollerblading, skateboarding etc are not recommended.
