Three-day Eid Al Adha holiday for private sector

Private sector employees will get a three-day break from Monday until Wednesday (November 15-17), according to the UAE Ministry of Labour. 

Meanwhile, the UAE Ministry of Education has announced that all schools - government and private sector - will remain closed for the week from November 14 to 20.

Minister of Education Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami said schools are to open on Sunday, November 21st.The minister said the resolution takes into consideration family commitments on such occasions where a normal school day falls between holidays.The resolution, he added, aims to ensure a happy holiday for students and their families.

Government and other public sector employees will get a six-day break this Eid, with holidays starting Monday, November 15, until Saturday, the 20th, according to official news agency WAM.

"Employees of the private sector will get a paid Eid Al Adha holiday from Monday, November 15 (corresponding to Dhul Hijjah 9th) until November 17 (Wednesday), according to a circular by Minister of Labor Saqr Ghobash.

Eid Al Adha holiday for federal ministries and departments is to start on Monday, November 15 and ends on Thursday, November 18, according to a circular issued by  Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources. Work is to resume at the federal ministries and departments on Sunday November 21.

The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) announced the financial markets will close down from November 15 and resume trading on Sunday, November 21 to mark Eid Al Adha holiday, according to a circular No 21 of year 2010 issued by the Federal Human Resources.
   
This year, the annual Haj pilgrimage will start on Sunday, November 14, and the first day of Eid Al Adha is Tuesday, November 16, according to Saudi Authorities.

A number of travel agents, hotels and airlines in the country and around the region have started announcing packages for such breaks, luring travellers with competitively-priced fares and discounts on travel and stay.

GCC peer Qatar announced a 10-day break for schools and public sector employees. Eid break in Qatar will start on November 11 and end on November 21.

Many UAE residents are planning to go on short trips in and around the country and are awaiting the Ministry’s announcements on the break.

The longish break is likely to fuel debate in Gulf countries about the vast discrepancies between the public and the private sectors, in the holidays granted to their employees.
