This past weekend was one of deadly disasters on UAE roads.

Three people died in two separate incidents.

In the first grisly accident, a motorist burnt to death when his car, parked on the roadside, was hit by a speeding vehicle and went up flames on Al Dhaid Road on Saturday.

The accident happened at about five in the morning and the man burnt to death before rescue teams reached the spot.

Col Abdul Rahman Khattar, director of media and traffic awareness section at Sharjah Police said that the man inside the car died on the spot and his car, which had an Oman number plate, was completely gutted.

The body was first taken to a hospital and then, on orders from the police, was transferred to the police forensic laboratory. An investigation  has been launched in the case.

Drunk driver kills two
In the second incident, a drunk Asian driver killed two Asian pedestrians and seriously injured another Asian man when he rammed into them from the back in Ras Al Khaimah, the semi official Arabic language daily Alittihad said on Sunday.

Four Asian men were walking off the street in Al Gail area in the emirate when a speeding car swerved off the road and hit them, the paper said.

Two of them were instantly killed while one was seriously injured and the fourth escaped unhurt. The driver fled the scene but was later caught by police.

Alittihad did not identify the victims but said the two dead men are aged 28 and 38 years while the injured one is 28-year-old.

“Police searching the area later found the car parked nearly four kilometers away. Its driver, aged 44 years, was sleeping inside the car and appeared to be heavily drunk,” the paper said, quoting police sources.
