Three Emirati students have been sentenced to jail terms on drug charges.

The Dubai Criminal Court awarded sentences ranging from one to three years to the three youths for possessing and consuming narcotic substances.

A 22-year-old man identified as SMO, who was also supplying drugs to his mentally challenged younger brother, received a 5-year term.

The latter, 21-year-old GMO, will spend a year in jail.

Their compatriot MSM, 22, was given a 4-year term for doing drugs.

The prosecution presented its case accusing SMO of possessing 19 narcotic tablets that he was sharing with his younger sibling.

It was a tip-off that led police to the Al Warqaa residence of the two brothers on March 23.

On searching the house, police found the supplies, that included a quantity of hashish from SMO's bed and the tablets from a bottle in his wardrobe.

Subsequent medical tests proved the two had consumed drugs.

SMO then confessed that he received the supplies from MSM who resides in Abu Dhabi.

In coordination with Abu Dhabi Police, MSM was later arrested but couldnn't find anything from him. He had also denied involvement and

pleaded ignorance about the two brothers.

But a urine test done on MSM proved that he too was taking drugs including morphine and codeine.

His argument that the drugs were taken on medical advice fell through as prosecution did not find any evidence to support that.
