Too busy to re-register Dubai car? Get PIN, delegate it

When you need to re-register your vehicle in Dubai or wish to sell it, you’ll have to necessarily make a visit to the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) customer service centre to get this done.

But what if you need to re-register more than one vehicle in a year? Many households in the emirate have multiple cars, likely registered under one person’s name. A problem arises when that person has a full-time day job, and it is difficult to escape from it often.

Sounds familiar?

Transactions relating to your vehicle can be time-consuming to complete. But as the vehicle is registered on one person’s name, only that person can manage the transaction.

In order to facilitate the process, a new electronic system called the ‘Personal Appearance Service’ is being launched this month by the RTA.

After completing registration of the customers’ details in full at one of the customer centres, the concerned person will receive an SMS conveying a PIN code, through which s/he can delegate anyone deemed appropriate to process his or her transaction, explained Mohammed Abdul Karim Nimaat, Director of Vehicles Licensing at the Licensing Agency of the RTA.

Transactions relate to all matters of relevance to vehicles licensing such as vehicle registration, vehicle export, vehicle transfer, vehicle transport, and selling vehicle number plate, among others.

However, it will be most beneficent for people who engage in the sale of assets related to the vehicle, as these are the services where the person must attend the customer service centre, explained Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO at the Licensing Agency.

“There are people who regularly sell vehicles. They would have to attend the centre for each transaction, while this might be difficult to combine with their day-time jobs. With this service, they are required to visit the centre only once to get the PIN, which can then be used for every vehicle sale,” he explained.

A new PIN code will be issued for every kind of transaction and the PIN code will be sent to the mobile phone number of the customer, to guarantee that only he is able to delegate a person for the transaction. A transaction of another kind would require a different PIN code.

“The new service is considered the first of its kind across the region enabling the processing of business processes and transactions in a smooth manner without obliging the concerned individual to attend in person,” said Mohammad.

The new service is offered in response to the continual feedback of customers -particularly ladies and seniors- regarding the burden of attending personally at service centres to process transactions.

Previously, customers unable to attend the centre were required to go through another time-consuming procedure of preparing a Power of Attorney from the Notary Public.

“Such an exercise used to take long and the Department has therefore opted to embark on this electronic drive to keep pace with new technologies and boost customers’ satisfaction rating,” said Mohammad.
