Traffic accidents kill 27 in Dubai in Q1

The number of deaths due to traffic accidents in Dubai for the first quarter of this year stood at 27, down from 30 during the same period last year.

According to General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director of Dubai Traffic, the total number of traffic accidents in Dubai during the first quarter of this year stood at 368, compared with 325 during the same period last year, 2011.

Pakistani drivers caused 85 traffic accidents, which resulted in 4 deaths.

Indians caused 77 accidents, which resulted in 7 deaths.

UAE nationals were involved in 73 accidents which resulted in 9 deaths.

Egyptians committed 14 causing 4 deaths.

Drinking and driving still continues to be a menace on the roads causing 66 accidents and two deaths.
The other main reason for accidents was suddenly swerving into another lane and jumping red lights.
