Traffic jam on SZR after accident near Safa Park

Traffic blues had Dubai residents firmly in its grip, as yet another accident caused major tailbacks mid-afternoon on Sheikh Zayed Road, earlier today.

Readers called it in, with Al Safa interchange being the latest location for a fender bender on the main highway.

Dubai Police tweeted the same, writing: “There is accident on Sheikh Zayed Road towards to Abu Dhabi near Al Safa park. Please drive carefully and safely.”

The update was put up at 2pm.

R Kumar, who managed to escape the tailback by exiting on the Al Safa exit to connect towards Nad Al Sheba called in to say: “The traffic is literally crawling, with tailbacks visible all the way towards Dubai.

“However, cars appeared to be barely moving even beyond the Safa interchange. It looked pretty bad.”

Resident Shane Sharief took to Twitter to vent his frustration, saying: “Traffic on Dubai roads has increased massively. Is this sign of recession getting over?”

In two separate incidences earlier today, a vehicle caught fire on Etihad Road, followed by another accident on Sheikh Zayed Road, both resulting in major traffic delays for morning commuters.

Readers reported the accident occurred near Jebel Ali, with resident Hussein Wehbe tweeting: “Massive traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road from Marina Mall till after Ibn Battuta Mall due to accident.”

Caline Malek tweeted: “Crazy traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road going to Abu Dhabi from Dubai; not a good start to the week.”

Kia Raisrani wrote: “Dubai Marina is jinxed. Third traffic jam in three weeks.”

Dubai Police tweeted added more details on the burning car, writing: “A vehicle caught fire due to an accident on Etihad Road in the direction of Dubai at 7.25am.”

Further details emerged as many concerned denizens took to Twitter to inform the accident was near Al Mulla Plaza.
