Al Ain mum, two kids killed in house fire

Tragedy struck an Arab family in the Eastern oasis town of Al Ain when a massive fire engulfed their house in the morning and charred a young mother and two little sons to death, newspapers reported on Friday.

The father had just gone out to take his two older sons to school before going to work when the blaze erupted at the house in Murkhaniya area on Thursday morning.

The mother, in her 20s, was found dead hugging her two sons Saif and Bilal, 4 and 5 years, apparently to protect them from the spreading fire.

“Police and civil defence men who controlled the blaze found the dead mother cowering in one corner of the sitting room and hugging her two children… it was a tragic scene that saddened the entire neighbourhood,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.

It quoted a police spokesman as saying the incident took place at around 9:30am and that it had opened an investigation to determine its cause.
