The Dubai Criminal Court has jailed two housemaids for robbing their employers in seperate cases.

Both maids were sentenced to three months in jail followed by deportation.

In the first case RJJ, 24, Filipina was found guilty of stealing Dh56,000 during 2009 from her Emirati employer Maryam.

The complaint was made by the employer's son Khalid Saeed, 33, who found money missing since the maid joined the family.

He approached the police when Dh24,000 was found missing from his mother's cash box she kept in the bedroom.

The maid later admitted to the crime.

In the second case STA, 33, a Bangladeshi housemaid was found guilty of stealing Dh7,205 and US$100, Australian $1,040  Canadian $20 and Saudi Riyal 160 from the house of her employer Asem Mumtaz.

Noticing money and precious items are missing from her house, Shabana Asem, the wife of the employer on July 12 searched the maid’s room with the help of her nephew Mohammed Omar, 22, Pakistani student.

Omar testified before the court that apart from the cash, he also found four rings, two of the diamond, and a gold ear ring from under her bed.

A complaint was lodged with the police and the maid arrested. Although she denied any hand in the robbery, the maid later admitted to the crime but said the Dh7,205 was in fact sent to her by her sister's husband who wanted a work visa in the UAE.
