Two Emiratis bought a knife from a grocery, stabbed the salesman with it, stole Dh400 and 12 mobile phone cards, and ran away, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The 31-year-old Indian grocery worker Abdul Rahiman Kobamo had to undergo three stiches for wounds on his forehead and another 16 stiches on his arm with two per cent rate of disability in his thumb’s movement.

At 3.30pm on June 9, the two accused identified as BII, 19, jobless, and KMA, 30, sailor, entered Al Areesh grocery in the Al Rashidiya area and asked the salesmen for a knife. Abdul Rahiman gave them the knife and they paid him Dh8 and left the grocery.

Five minutes later and while he was cleaning the fridge KMA approached him and engaged him in talks. When he noticed that the other man had opened the cash drawer he rushed at him and caught his hand.

“KMA pulled the knife and stabbed my arm and then my forehead while the other stole Dh400 and about eight du mobile cards and sped away in a blue Lancer. Men came out from the mosque and called the police and the emergency of Rashid Hospital where I received treatment,” Abdul Rahiman testified before the prosecution.

Hamad Obaid, 24, policeman, testified that following the complaint and investigating the theft police traced KMA who was arrested a week later in the Al Twar area.

KMA confessed to attacking the Al Areesh grocery salesman and stealing Dh400 and 12 du mobile cards along with BII.

KMA testified before police that he stopped the car next to the mosque and with BII entered the grocery and bought a knife. They waited for a couple of minutes until the other worker in the grocery left and then entered again.

He said that BII opened the drawer while KMA engaged the salesman in talks. KMA stabbed the salesman on his arm and forehead when he tried to stop BII, testified the policeman.

KMA got rid of the knife by throwing it on Emirates Road and then he washed the car, Obaid testified.

BII who was arrested on the same day repeated the same confession. The salesman recognised the two attackers in the identification parade.

The court adjourned the case until November 3 for verdict.
