Dubai police arrest two Georgian visitors who stole more than Dhfive million from local houses in less than two weeks.

The two arrived in the emirate on May 5 and immediately began their robberies, using what police described as “Georgian gang methods.”

“Their operations were highly professional and they followed methods used by Georgian gangs,” said Brigadier Khalil Al Mansoori, director of the detectives and criminal investigation department in Dubai.

“They targeted three areas and were moving through them by a rented car…they were knocking at doors of apartments in those areas and if the people inside answer, they would apologize and say they have mistaken by the flat…if no reply, they would break the door and rob the apartment.”

Emarat Alyoum daily quoted another senior police officer as saying the two were later located through the car rent office in Sharjah.

“Detectives were deployed near that office in coordination with Sharjah police….they watched the office for a long time before one of the two came and wanted to hand the car back,” said Colonel Salim Al Rumaithi, the department’s deputy director for detectives affairs.

“Our men did not arrest him….they just followed him as he walked for nearly five km before entering an apartment…another person later followed…our men then stormed the flat and arrested the two.”

Rumaithi said the two carried out seven robberies in Dubai and four in Sharjah involving more than Dhfive million worth of money and jewellery.
