Three rescued from gas cylinder explosion at Al Khail Gate

Two women and a baby were rescued from a residential building at Al Khail Gate on Wednesday following a gas cylinder explosion that also caused extensive damage to the structure.

In a statement from Dubai Civil Defence, the incident occurred at 11.23am, on the fifth floor of building number 39 in the residential community of Al Quoz.

Apartments on the lower floors have also sustained exterior damages.

In an official statement, a spokesperson for Dubai Civil Defence confirmed two women were seriously injured in the blast and were rushed immediately to the hospital.

The impact of the gas cylinder explosion also affected two apartments and the side façade of the building adjacent to number 39, the authority further added.

Following the incident, the building was evacuated and Civil Defence teams gradually allowed residents to re-enter the building with the exception of the fifth floor where the explosion took place, while real estate developer Dubai Properties has relocated displaced tenants with alternate housing.

In a statement to Al Bayan, Lt Col Atiq Ahmed Bourguiba, Deputy Director, Department of Search and Rescue, Dubai Police stated in the aftermath of the blast, residents of the fifth floor of building 39 informed Dubai Police of the absence of two women who inhabited the affected apartment.

He stated a rescue operation was immediately implemented that resulted in two women and a baby found inside the wreckage.

He added one woman is recovering after the collapse of the roof and was moderately injured.

He added rescue teams recovered the second woman from under the rubble, who was seriously injured.

A baby was also located inside the flat and all three were immediately transferred all the victims to the hospital for medical treatment.
