If you’re a prepaid customer of local telecom operator Du, you must take notice of the expiry date of recharge phone cards, as old ones will be phased out soon.

UAE telecom operator Du has announced that it will be introducing expiry dates on all its prepaid recharge cards, vouchers and mPOS Pins.

“In this regard, all prepaid recharge cards or vouchers issued on or before December 31, 2012, will expire on July 31, 2015.”

In order to ensure that customers don’t lose their credit, Du has advised them to use the recharge cards or vouchers issued on or before December 31, 2012, before they expire.

The telecom services provider said it would give customers an additional one-and-a-half months to replace their old recharge cards with new ones.

After July 30, 2015 till August 15, 2015, customers can replace their expired recharge cards or vouchers with active recharge cards or vouchers at the company’s stores in Mall of the Emirates, Al Salam Tower, Media City, Dubai Mall, Mirdif City Centre in Dubai; Hamdan Street in Abu Dhabi; Sharjah City Centre; Ajman City Centre;   Fujairah City Centre, Ras Al Khaimah - RAK Mall; and Umm Al Quwain Shop.

From August 16, 2015, no rebates, replacements or other credit against the expired prepaid recharge cards or vouchers will be offered, Du said.

Total mobile customer base of Du stood at 7.48 million by the end of Q1 2015 as compared to 7.55 million in the same quarter last year, down 0.9 per cent.

Its mobile revenue totalled Dh2.23 billion as against Dh2.22 billion, a 0.2 per cent increase.

Dubai-based telecom company du last month announced a 100 per cent bonus promotion which is available for Du ‘Pay As You Go’ and ‘Alo’ customers.

Etisalat recharging cards and e-vouchers also bear two-year expiry dates.

A response from Etisalat about its plan to phase out older recharge cards was awaited at the time of writing this report.
