UAE amnesty: 10,000 illegals exit country

As of January 2, 2013, 9,453 out of 20,391 applicants for amnesty  from 106 countries have departed the country since the two-month grace period was announced on December 4,  2012,  a top Ministry of Interior (MoI) disclosed today.

Dr Abdullah bin Sahou, Director General of Residency and Foreign Affairs' Department in Sharjah and head of the amnesty media committee, appealed to violators of the federal law on entry and residence of foreigners to report to the nearest centre to process their departure without fines, or to contact the toll-free number 8005111 for detailed information about required documents.

He also urged the media institutions to shed light on the amnesty as one of the major community-driven initiatives.

He affirmed the MoI would receive voluntary applicants with convenience and streamline their departure transactions with ease.
