UAE amnesty: Ministry of Labour exempts companies from fines for ‘illegal’ employees

Employers urged to ensure employees without labour cards take advantage of amnesty

The UAE Ministry of Labour will exempt all private enterprises of labour violation fines for employees who are staying illegally in the country, but apply and leave under the latest UAE amnesty scheme.

The UAE amnesty runs from December 4, 2012 to February 4, 2013.

Mubarak Saeed Al Dhaheri, Undersecretary, Ministry of Labour, said that the ministry has made arrangements to exempt establishments of fines provided offenders employed by them leave the country under the amnesty in accordance with the Cabinet decision No. 24 / 5/ and 119 for 2012.

The fine for delay in renewal of labour card 60 days after the date of entry into the country, or card expiration, is Dh1,000 for each month.

Al Dhaheri underscored the coordination between the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of the Interior, represented by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs.

The two are linked electronically and this allows the exchange of information and data on violators.

Al Dhaheri called on employers to take advantage of the amnesty scheme and ensure employees not able to renew labour cards in a timely manner take advantage of the offer.
