UAE announces Dh220m aid for Syrian refugees

Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Development and International Co-operation, has announced a provision of Dh220 million ($60 million) for Syrian refugees in response to the UN appeal.

Sheikha Lubna said during a press conference held at the ministry's headquarters in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday that Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the UAE's leadership is committed alongside the international community to alleviate the repercussions of humanitarian catastrophe in Syria.

She said upon the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and in response to the UN plan to address the Syrian crisis, the UAE allocated Dh220 million, of which Dh183 million was allocated for UN plan inside Syria and Dh37 million allocated for the UN regional plan for Syria in Jordan.

Sheikha Lubna said the ministry in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development will disburse the grant.
