UAE-based Kerala writers launch their titles at Sharjah Book Fair

The 32nd edition of Sharjah International Book Festival (SIBF) is a carnival for Indian authors and publishers, who are busy launching new titles.

Several Malayali authors have launched their work at the fair. While some of them have translated Arabic poems by eminent UAE poets such as Dr Shehab Al Ghanem and Khalid Al Badour, others have written their own. 

Here’s a list of writers from Kerala who have launched their work at SIBF…

KM Abbas

He launched Shaamal (Storm) - a collection of 12 short stories in Malayalam, revolving around the life of an expatriate in the Gulf.

The book is published by a Kerala-based publisher, Lipi.

Abbas has authored five other books, as well.

Shabu Kalithattil

A popular radio jockey turned news editor working for the Malayalam Radio station, Hit 96.7, he launched his second book, Sargashrustiyile Rasa Vidyakal (Chemistry of Literary Creations) - a collection of celebrity interviews that he has conducted overtime. It is published by DC Books.

Manu Rahman

A journalist and budding author, he released his second book Marakkan Vayya (Cannot Forget), which is a collection of memorable moments with several Malayalam celebrities from films, literature, politics etc. It is published by DC books.

Sadiq Kavil

A journalist with Malayala Manorama, he has launched two books. Jeevithathinte Nalloru Bhagam (Major chunk of your life) - is a collection of stories of expatriates in the Middle East.  And Kanyaparayile Penkutti - a novelette 

Baiju Bhaskar

The news editor at Asianet Radio, his book on Malala did extremely well and so publishers Chiranthana unveiled the second edition.
 
P P Shashindran

A journalist, he launched his new title Kolthunadiloode (Journey through Malabar) - a collection of stories based in Malabar region of Kerala. It is published by Alpha One.

Sainudeen Punnayoorkulam

An HR professional, based in the UAE, he unveiled a short story collection, Online Shreeja Vilikkunnu (Shreeja is calling you Online). All 25 stories revolves around expatriates in the Gulf. It is published by Current Books.

Surab

An employee of Sewa, he released his new novel Nee Pokunnidam (The place that you go) at  SIBF.

Rafeeq Memunda

A social worker and trader launched his book ‘Suicide Through Reality Show’, which is again a  collection of stories about expatriate life.

Dr George Kaliyadan

An Indian pshychologist, practising in the UAE, released a book on psychology and counselling.
