UAE beachgoers, drivers warned of bad weather

Rough weather has prompted a warning to beachgoers across the UAE to refrain from venturing into the sea.

A red-and-yellow flag has been hoisted on the open beach in Jumeirah, and tourists are being allowed to swim in just one particular stretch under strict lifeguard monitoring.

The UAE’s met department has predicted that the rough weather will continue until Friday.

Strong winds have been buffeting Dubai since early morning and drivers are advised to be careful too.

Majdi Tag, a senior lifeguard at the Dubai Open Beach, told Emirates 24|7 that most of the Open Beach has been closed for the public. “The place is filled with tourists and we are only letting them in one area, which is protected by the breakwater and under very strict monitoring. The sea is pretty rough,” he said.

According to him, it is strictly advised for people to not venture into any beach that is not protected by lifeguards.

UAE’s National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has predicted the day to be partly cloudy and hazy.

“The amount of clouds will increase over islands and coastal areas. fresh to strong Northwesterly winds, especially over the sea and western openland areas, with a remarked fall in temperatures specially over the western, and may cause some blowing dust at times,” the forecast for the day said.

Minimum temperature in coastal areas could go down to as much as 12 degrees centigrade and reach even 9 degrees centigrade in internal areas.
