UAE casualties: 9,000 hurt falling from heights

A total of 9,041 people was hurt by accidentally falling from heights across the UAE in 2013.

These are cases recorded by the UAE Ministry of Health institutions and of these, 56 died, of whom nine were female and 47 male.

The UAE Ministry of Health (MoH), which released the figures clarified that these do not include causalities seen at Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority, and private sector institutions in the country.

According to the report, cases of falling topped the list of all other types of causalities which were seen by MoH institutions These totalled to 58,486 cases.

Again, the MoH clarified that this number does not include figures from Al Baraha Hospital in Dubai and Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah.

Motor vehicle traffic accidents

The report released by the MoH highlighted that causalities caused by motor vehicle traffic accidents were the second highest - at 9,786 cases - of which 272 people died at institutions under the MoH.

Fire and flames

It also pointed out that 800 cases involved injuries in accidents caused by fire and flames, while 305 got hurt in accidents due to natural and environmental factors.

Sharjah tops the list of causalty cases with 24,360, followed by Ras Al Khaimah with 22,459 cases; Fujairah 6,143 cases; Ajman 3,403 cases; Dubai 1,230 cases; and UAQ 891 cases.
