UAE court awards injured worker Dh473,000

An expatriate worker who suffered a permanent disability in a job accident won Dh473,000 damages from his employers.

The worker had told court that his employers were to blame for his fall in the absence of safety measures at the work site and demanded more than Dh500,000 damages, including medical treatment expenses.

A court of first instance had ordered his company to pay Dh473,000 and the insurance firm Dh250,000, prompting them to appeal the ruling.

An appeals court ordered the employers to pay Dh36,000 damages to the worker. He rejected the sentence and appealed with the Federal Supreme Court, which upheld an earlier sentence for a compensation of Dh473,000.
