UAE donates 200 buses to Egypt

The UAE has delivered 200 buses to Egypt, the second installment in its promise to donate 600 buses to the public transport authority in Cairo, said the Coordination Office of the UAE-funded Development Projects in Egypt.

The donated buses were manufactured by Abu Dhabi-based Hafilat Industries and JB Polo Buses Manufacturing in Egypt.

The office says that up to 600,000 residents of the Egyptian capital are expected to use the buses, which could help reduce the chronic traffic congestion and accidents in the city as well as transport cost by 50 per cent .

Preparations are underway to hand over yet a third installment of the donated buses to Egyptian authorities, the office added.

Governor of Cairo Jalal Mustafa Saeed, who took delivery of the buses, praised the UAE for its support for his country and noted that the founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, laid the foundations of the solid relations between the two countries.

The office noted that the first installment of the donated bus were delivered to Egypt in early March.
