As the rumours of cyclones and earthquake died down, so did the sandstorms and string winds that gave rise to them to start with.

However, foggy weather was forecast for the morning, with cloud cover and relative humidity set to increase, according to the National Centre for Meterology and Seismology (NCMS).

There was moderate rainfall as well the peak of the Jess Mountain, Ras Al Khaimah, which has an altitude of over 5700 meters above the sea level.

Rainwater filled the valleys on top of the mountain, which saw a drop in temperature.

In a statement issued earlier, the NCMS warned against unofficial predictions spreading through text messages and social networking websites, and urged citizens and residents in the UAE to get weather information only from authorised and reliable sources.

On Sunday the dusty, hazy and near-zero-visibility weather has sent social networks into a storm of rumours and scaremongering, even as by Sunday evening the massive sandstorm had lost a lot of its velocity.

Global Village which has remained closed due to bad weather opened and activity returned to normal.

Schools, which were affected by the storm, also were functioning as normal.
