The UAE job market remained rather lull in June of 2013 when compared to the same month the year before.

Overall, the country witnessed a 31 per cent annual decline but healthcare showed positive growth, whereas hospitality and education sector performed better than most other sectors.

The June 2013 Monster Employment Index Middle East shows that healthcare scored the most in both the categories – top growth industries and top growth occupations that is monitored by the Index.

In the former category, it was up 8 per cent, recording the highest annual growth and showed a growth of 7 per cent in annual growth amongst the occupation groups.

Next on the list of UAE’s top growth industries were hospitality and education with a 2 and 3 per cent decline respectively.

In the top growth occupations list, hospitality and travel (-4 per cent) and HR & Admin (-9 per cent) came after healthcare.

The Middle Easter job market showed a decline of 15 per cent on an annual basis with education leading all industry sectors in annual growth followed by healthcare.

Industry year-over-year trends show that online opportunities exceeded June 2012 levels in three of the 13 industry sectors monitored by the index.

Education (up 18 per cent) led all sectors followed by healthcare (up 9 per cent) and production/manufacturing, automotive and ancillary (down 34 per cent) registered the steepest annual decline.

Occupation year-over-year trends reveal that three of 11 occupation groups registered improved online demand over the year. Healthcare (up 16 per cent) led all occupational groups in year-over-year growth and customer service (down 25 per cent each) professionals registered the weakest long-term trend.

Geographically, online opportunities exceeded June’12 level in four of the seven countries monitored by the Index. Egypt (up 17 per cent) followed by Qatar (up 11 per cent) led all countries in year-over-year growth. The UAE (down 31 per cent) registered the steepest decline over the past 12 months.

“Owing to the global business scenario, the employers in the Middle east continue to adopt a cautious approach in hiring. This is reflective in the double digit drop in the Monster Employment Index,” said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com (India/ Middle- East/ South East Asia).

The Monster Employment Index is a monthly gauge of online job posting activity in Middle-East based on a real-time review of tens of thousands of employer job opportunities culled from a large representative selection of career Web sites and online job listings. The Index does not reflect the trend of any one advertiser or source, but is an aggregate measure of the change in job listings across the industry.
