UAE martyr Rashid Nasser Al Za’abi’s family recalls him as saying before leaving for Yemen to join the Operation Restoring Hope that he wished to be gifted with martyrdom.

His social media posts also reflects his desire, according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper Al Bayan.

Family members of Al Za’abi say they are very proud that he died a martyr while defending the homeland.

Born on October 7, 1981, Rashid Nasser Al Za’abi was the seventh of 11 siblings consisting of nine boys and two girls. The family lived together at their home in Khor Kalba’a.

Rashid was a responsible person and joined the armed forces at age 16 so as not to be dependent on his family. He performed his duties with great enthusiasm and was sent on several military missions abroad, including Saudi Arabia, France, Kuwait and Libya.

In a previous mission to Libya, Al Za’abi was honoured with a military service medal in recognition of his performance.

Al Za’abi’s wife Alya’a said theirs was a traditional marriage and the 10 years she spent with him were the most beautiful years of her life. She now looks forward to bringing up their three daughters - Sheikha , Shama and Shahd.
