Khorfakkan Court has fined six Arab staff members of a shop that sells mobile phones between Dh150,000 and Dh250,000 for stealing pictures of women who brought their mobile phones to the shop for repair, and then selling those pictures to men.

The court also sentenced them to one year imprisonment followed by deportation as well as closure of the two mobile phone shops and seizing all the equipment used by the accused and deleting all the data that was stolen from the women.

The incident came to light when Khorfakkan Police received several complaints from victims or their relatives about their personal pictures and videos taken during different occasions, especially wedding parties, being broadcast on mobile phones and social media.

Khorfakkan Police started an investigation, which led them to find out that majority of the victims took their mobile phones for repair to two shops, which coincidentally belonged to the same person.

A source from Khorfakkan Police said that the women took the pictures at parties, and when they took their phones for maintenance or repair, the staff at these shops copied their pictures and videos and sold them later to men.
