A UAE Ministry of Social Affairs official has noted that nurseries in the country are obliged to seek the approval of the Cabinet before implementing any increase in fees.

Moza Al Shoumi, director of the Child Department at the Ministry, explained that institutions that increase fees without the Cabinet approval can face a penalty of Dh10,000.

According to a report in an UAE daily, the Ministry of Social Affairs has approved fee hikes for 11 kindergarten in the UAE. Six kindergartens are in Dubai, 4 in Abu Dhabi and one in Sharjah.

It is reported that 15 kindergartens had applied for a fee increase.

Al Shoumi explained that the fee increase was determined based on parameters like increase in lease contract and municipality approved increase in staff salary.

Detailing the rights of the parents, the official added that parents have the right to check a nursery’s licence and the contract highlighting the fees and working hours. She added that in case these requests are denied, the parents can file a complaint with the Ministry.
