UAE raises Dh79m for Pakistan flood victims

Telethon continues to draw in donations for over 23 million affected Pakistanis

The telethon campaign, dubbed Awnakum - Arabic for Your Help - has, to date, collected a total amount of Dh79 million in aid of the flood-affected people in Pakistan.

The campaign is organised by the UAE television and radio stations.

The telethon, was launched by the UAE Red Crescent Authority, in line with the directions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

It started on Wednesday and is aimed at raising funds to assist over 23 million people in the flood-hit Pakistan.

The campaign, run simultaneously by a number of TV and radio stations, including Al Emarat, Noor Dubai, Sharjah 2, Ajman, Dunai Al Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Al Waha and Gear One, will continue tomorrow as well.

Meanwhile, Maximus Air Cargo, the UAE’s largest all cargo airline, has pledged three free-of-charge cargo flights to Pakistan during the telethon. The airline, a part of Abu Dhabi Aviation Group, is an official partner of the UAE Red Crescent.

The three cargo flights will depart for Pakistan over the next two weeks and will carry approximately 150 tonnes of vital supplies.

I've a humble request to the campaign organisers. Please do not give this money to the corrupt government. Hand this money over to some genuine people like Imran Khan. This is really a serious issue and money should be given someone trustworthy, please
