UAE residents don't need credit card to buy BlackBerry World apps

Now you don’t need a credit card to buy apps on your BlackBerry phones.

Etisalat has launched a new service in the UAE where subscribers can purchase applications on BlackBerry World and charge it directly to their mobile account.

According to a statement from the telecom provider, the facility will be available to both prepaid and post-paid customers.

Currently, mobile apps can be purchased on any of the platforms, be it Android, iOS and Windows, only through a credit card.

Apple, however, has introduced a prepaid card, available at the Apple Store at Dubai Mall, which can be used to purchase apps.

BlackBerry customers will however be required to enter their BlackBerry ID username and password.

Khaled El Khouly, Chief Marketing Officer, Etisalat said the idea is to provide BlackBerry users an easy and secure access to applications, games and services on the BlackBerry handsets.

However there is no news yet on enabling BlackBerry Voice and Video messaging service on BBM. The facility has been blocked in the UAE and BlackBerry had said it is working with the officials to enable the features on the BlackBerry devices.
