UAE's first baby of 2013: Pakistani parents welcome Sara; First Emirati born is a girl

Published

Two minutes after the UAE marked the advent of the new year, Sara was born in Sharjah to become the first newborn to see 2013.

Sara was born to Pakistani parents at Al Qassimi Hospital at 12.02 am on Tuesday January 1st, 2013, according to the semi official daily Alittihad.

The first UAE national baby born on 1-1-2013 was at Corniche Hospital. The baby girl has not yet been named and weighed 3.3kg.

The hospital gave the mother’s name as Ameera Omar and the father’s name as Saleh Al Muqeet Salem Al Menhali.

The mother said: “This is a big day for me as this is not only my first baby but also the first grandchild born in our family and the first UAE National born on the New Years at Corniche Hospital.

“Although, the due date of my baby was close to the New Year, I am extremely excited that my daughter is born on this day. I was hoping to name my baby after our President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan if it was a boy, but since I am blessed with a girl, I would like the President to name my daughter,” Ameera said hopefully.

In the eastern oasis town of Al Ain, a baby boy followed Sara when he was born at 12.50 am on Tuesday. His Emirati parents named him Zayed after late Sheikh Zayed.

Minutes before the end of 2012, Tala was born in Al Ain to become the last newborn to mark the end of that year.

Her father Mutasem Abu Hijleh said he had expected Tala to be born minutes after the start of 2013 but that “it seems she was a bit in a hurry.”
