A nip in the morning air is being welcomed by UAE residents, with temperatures possibly dipping to as low 17-degree Celsius in the coming days.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has confirmed the switch to cooler climes, adding in a statement that “October is considered as one of the second transitional period between summer and winter seasons, which is usually characterised with sharp and rapid changes in weather.”

The spokesperson continued: “The air temperature during this month remarkably decreases specifically during the second half of the month, where the temperature drops from the month of September by about 3-5 degrees Celsius.”

According to the NCMS, the average air temperature is between 28.6 and 30.8 degrees Celsius, while the average maximum temperature during this month is between 32.5 and 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, those hoping for a dip in the mercury would be happy to note that the average minimum air temperature is between 17.8 to 26.3 degrees Celsius.

However, rare weather patterns can also follow suit.

The spokesperson stated that the UAE has rarely been affected by heat waves in October, however, the highest air temperature recorded was 44.6 degrees Celsius in Al Hibab in 1998, whilst the lowest air temperature recorded at 9.9 degrees Celsius at Falaj Al Mualla in 1996.

Fog and rain could follow

The spokesperson reported further: “The relative humidity is usually high in the early morning during this month, and gradually decreases with the emergence of the sun, then increases after sunset, causing an increase of chances for fog formation through October between the midnight and early morning within scattered days.”

Meanwhile, convective clouds are also likely to accumulate during this month over some regions of the country, particularly to the east, possibly accompanied with rain.

Incidentally, the highest amount of rain during the month of October is found to be 106.2 mm over Zakat in 1997 throughout the climatic records, while the highest daily accumulative rainfall amount was 82mm recorded in Dibba on October 31, 1997.
