UAE to attend Women's Forum Global Meet

In line with the directives of Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of UAE Gender Balance Council and President of Dubai Women Establishment, a UAE delegation is heading to Deauville, France, to participate in the 11th Women’s Forum Global Meeting, to be held from October 14-16, 2015.

The delegation includes UAE women leaders from both public and private sectors. Over 2000 delegates are expected to participate in the Forum.

The UAE delegation will seek to highlight the UAE’s achievements in women’s empowerment and the role that women are playing in the social and economic development of the country.

The visit comes as Dubai prepares to host the Women’s Forum in February next year, the first time the Forum will be held in Mena.

Sheikha Manal said: “The choice of Dubai as the venue of next year’s Women’s Forum represents global recognition of our achievements in women’s empowerment and acknowledges the UAE leadership’s vision for empowering women and enhancing their role as strategic partners in national development.”

“We will also highlight our preparations for hosting a successful Forum in Dubai next year,” she added.

“The Forum is a good platform to showcase the successes of Arab women, especially the accomplishments of Emirati women. These international gatherings are an ideal opportunity to rectify misleading stereotypes of Arab women,” she said.

“It is also a good opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with international women leaders and convey a clear picture of the developmental process in the country,” she said and added that will highlight the UAE’s efforts to empower Emirati women at the Deauville Forum.

Members of the UAE delegation include Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment; Lamia Abdulaziz Khan, Director of Dubai Ladies Club; Hala Badri, Du Executive Vice-President for Brand and Communication; Khawla Al Muhairi, Vice-President of Marketing and Corporate Communications at Dewa;  Mona bin Kalli, Director of The Cultural Office and Emirati Product designer Khalid Shafar.

The UAE delegation will participate in a number of sessions that will discuss the UAE’s approach to women’s empowerment, gender balance and engaging women as equal partners in the nation’s future. The UAE delegation will also speak about the role of Emirati women in the field of clean energy and best practices followed in the UAE to expand women’s participation in the workforce.

On the first day of the Forum, in a session titled “The UAE Gender Balance Council: A New Reference Point”, Shamsa Saleh will speak about the Council’s achievements and its efforts to empower women.

Khawla Al Muhairi will participate in a panel on “Innovators for Clean Energy” on the second day. She will speak about Dubai’s latest innovations in the field of clean energy.

On the third day, Emirati product designer Khalid Shafar will participate in a session on the role of folk art in modern design.
