Ministry of Health has said an advert circulating on social media about a new drug by an Arab physician for diabetes cure is fake.

Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary for Medical Practice and License, Ministry of Health, said this new drug is not registered in the UAE Ministry of Health and is fake, reported Al Bayan.

Al Amiri said the physician was under investigation three years ago and now he has changed the name of the pharmacy, which claims to be the exclusive agent for the drug.

He said that the laboratory tests at that time had proved  that the medicine was a dietary supplement for stomach disorders.

Al Amiri said: “The drug is not registered by the UAE MoH and is not sold in the UAE, but is purchased through websites.”

Al Amiri called on all people who have purchased it to stop using the drug as it may lead to unnecessary complications.

He also cautioned residents and urged them not to be carried away by social media adverts.

Al Amiri said there are reports of people calling from abroad and asking their relatives in the UAE to buy the new drug for them after seeing the adverts.

Al Amiri revealed that the person who promoted the drug works in the research department at Hammer Smith Hospital 's Faculty of Medicine, University of London. This person also claims that the medicine has been adopted by the UAE Ministry of Health and that it is being sold in one pharmacy in Abu Dhabi.

The Arab national claims he discovered the new drug after laboratory researches. He also claimed to have tested the medicine on some people and that it is patented from the US and Britain.

He said the new drug is available in two formats – as pills and injection – and claims that it can eliminate diabetes totally.

The physician explained that the new drug consists of enzymes that converts starch to sugar and breaks down the sugar molecules making it easier for the body to absorb it more effectively.

The drug needs to be taken for a period of two to six months for effective results, he explains.
