Unstable UAE weather this week; sandstorms

The National Center of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) has not ruled out the return of chaotic weather conditions that affected several parts of the UAE on Tuesday. Some emirates saw rain. While Sharjah experienced a burst of rain, Al Madam, Al Badayer and the Dubai-Hatta road saw heavy downpours.

The forecast for the rest of the week remains dusty, cloudy, with moderate winds stirring up sand, which may lead to poor visibility during the day and chances of rain. The sea is expected to be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Humidity will increase on the coast with early morning fog likely to form. NCMS has attributed the rains to South-East winds blowing across the affected areas.

On Tuesday evening, most residents were surprised by a heavy sandstorm, which engulfed parts of the UAE, reducing visibility to few hundred metres in some parts.

Motorists driving in Bur Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road reported the sandstorm heading back after office hours.

Police have advised motorists to be careful and maintain safe distance between the vehicles to avoid accidents.

“Due to a change in weather we request all the drivers to be extra cautious and follow the speed limit,” Dubai Police tweeted.

Traffic flow slowed down on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, said motorists.
