If you’re planning a romantic getaway on Valentine’s Day, here’s your chance to save some money and still surprise your loved one with an overseas trip, just suited to the occasion.

Qatar Airways has just released its special travel fares especially for those in love. “Leave your worries behind. Book a journey to your favourite destination with your loved one and save 25 per cent on each ticket. To take advantage of this fabulous offer, book 2, 4, 6 or 8 tickets before January 19 and travel throughout the month of February,” reads the newsletter sent out by the carrier.

The fares are applicable from Dubai and destinations are varied across continents.
Under the offer, you can fly from Dubai to Bali/Denpasar for Dh2,535 in economy class. If you want to go far away, then opt for places like Chicago for Dh5,275; Johannesburg for Dh3,515; Montreal (Dh4,855); Sao Paulo (Dh6,095).

Other places to choose from include London (Dh2,705); Oslo (Dh3,075), Seoul (Dh3,265) and Tokyo (Dh3,445).

Though it’s a pricey affair, the idea of travelling overseas to celebrate Valentine’s day is fast picking up globally.

A study released last year by Digitas, a digitally-led, global integrated brand agency, and Brandwatch, a social media monitoring and analytics company, analyzed over 1.6 million social mentions of Valentine’s Day taking place on news and general media sites, blogs, forums, Facebook, and Twitter from November 2012 – February 2013.

The findings reveal that more than 45,000 conversations mention travel for the holiday, suggesting that more people are considering Valentine’s Day a time to vacation away from home and no longer celebrating as just a single day affair.
