Dubai Police recorded 250 accidents – two were serious – on the first day of Ramadan (File)
A major accident has been reported on Al Dhaid road near Sharjah International Airport, causing congestion on the Dhaid road.
A pick-up vehicle overturned on the main road on Tuesday, blocking traffic towards Sharjah. The overturned vehicle was on the main highway for some time before it was cleared.
“I saw a van turned upside down in the road and I don’t know what happened to the driver or other motorists involved in the accident. I could see two ambulances waiting to attend the injured,” said an eyewitness.
The vehicle was in the left-most lane (also the fastest lane) of the three lane highway.
"I could see a major traffic build-up in the area as the ambulances were busy in the rescue and cleanup operation. I took another road to avoid the traffic on Dhaid,” said another eyewitness.
The reason for the accident or other details are yet to be obtained.
On the second day of Ramadan, traffic congestion has been reported in different areas of Dubai and Sharjah. "The traffic situation is quite bad in many highways, a small accident may cause massive traffic pile ups,” said a motorists heading towards Sharjah.
Earlier in the day another accident was reported by Dubai police. They tweeted: "An accident has been reported on SZR opposite Oasis Centre toward Dubai, causing traffic congestion, please be extra cautious."
Another accident on Sheikh Zayed Road was reported after the last interchange towards Abu Dhabi causing minor congestion.
