The State Security Circuit at the Federal Supreme Court, headed by Justice Falah Al-Hajri, on Monday reserved its ruling for May 18 in the case of five GCC nationals accused of disseminating information, data, rumours and pictures on websites and social networking site Twitter, with an intent to ridicule and damage the reputation and prestige of the state.

One of the defendants is being tried in his presence, while four others are tried in absentia.

The court heard pleas of the defence lawyer of the accused, identified as H.A.M.A, who pleaded that his client is innocent, and hence, the charges against him be dropped.

'Al Reem Ghost' case

Meanwhile, the State Security Circuit at the Federal Supreme Court deferred the ‘Al Reem Ghost’ case to May 18 so as to complete the proceedings after hearing the statements of the rest of the prosecution witnesses.

The court confronted the accused with the findings of the technical forensic laboratory. The court also reversed its earlier decision to refer the accused to a specialised medical centre, and ordered that she be put under close observation, following the report from the medical committee, which confirmed that there was no need for the accused to be sent to the medical centre.
The centre recommended that she could only have occasional medical sessions.

The defendant appeared before the court in the presence of some relatives, representatives of the media and members of civil society organisations in the UAE.
