Victim pardon saves killer from execution

A killer who had been sentenced to death was saved after the relatives of his victim pardon him without stipulating payment of blood money.

The man had been sentenced to death for premeditated murder in Abu Dhabi during a knife fight that also resulted in the injury of another one.

The Federal Supreme Court had upheld earlier death sentences by two courts before it dropped the capital punishments when the relatives of the victim sent a letter to court announcing they had pardoned the defendant without demanding diya (blood money), newspapers said without identifying the killer and the victim.
