Dubai Police rescue handicapped child locked in car

A handicapped child, who got locked in a car near Al Safa Park on Thursday, was rescued by Dubai Police Rescue team in a matter of minutes after their arrival.

“The mother got down to open the door to get her child out of the car. She was a bit late in opening the door and it got locked automatically. We were called in and rescued the child in less than five minutes,” Hassan Ali, a member of the Dubai Police Rescue team, told Emirates 24|7.

Emirates 24|7 reporters were present when the operation was going on. Onlookers said the child was locked for at least 10 minutes. However, a small gap in one of the car windows allowed fresh air to circulate inside.

“We tried to open the locks of the Volkswagen minivan, but since it was not possible we had to break one of the windows,” Ali, who has been working with the rescue squad for over a year, said.

He says their team attends to at least five to six calls a week of children being locked inside cars.

Earlier, the Dubai Police rescue team called on parents to pay attention to their children and not leave them alone in the car under any circumstance.

The chief of Dubai Municipality’s Occupational Health and Safety Section had told Emirates 24|7 that whether summer or winter, whether the air conditioning is switched on or off; a child should never be left in the car without supervision.
