Food plays a major role during the holy month. In fact, certain traditional dishes and drinks are considered an integral part of a Ramadan meal. Food with sauces and desserts are among the favourites. Here are two such dishes - Al Thareed and Al Legeemat that are easy to cook and great in taste. 

Al Thareed is made of bread and sauce. You may add meat of your liking, too. Here’s how you prepare Al Thareed… 

1. Al Thareed



Ingredients:

Khubz rgag/Bread/Roti

Vegetables (zucchini, potato, tomato, onion ) cut to large pieces.

Oil

Spices (¼ teaspoon turmeric;  a teaspoon coriander powder;  a teaspoon of cinnamon- cardamom)

3 black lemons (dried)

6 tablespoons of tomato paste

Salt to taste

Method

Place your pan in strove, when it is hot pour oil.

Fry the sliced onions first. Then add all spices, vegetables, salt, black lemons, and tomato paste to it. (You may also add chicken, mutton or beef).

Add little water, cover the pan and leave it to cook.

Make your sauce and cut bread into small pieces

Add sauce to bread, cover it completely and spoon in the vegetables or meat on top.

2. Al Legeemat



Al Legeemat is a traditional dessert served during the holy month. This sweet is easy to cook at home. And for those not interested in cooking, it is easily available in the market.
 

 

Ingredients:

2 cups flour.

1 cup of warm water

3 tablespoons of custard powder

1 tablespoon of powdered sugar

1 tablespoon of yeast

Method:

Mix all the ingredients and knead to make soft dough

Leave it aside for about 45minutes so it rises

Take a pan and add oil

Make small balls of the dough and fry them in the hot oil

Once done, serve them on a plate and top them with honey before serving
