An Emirati youth in Dubai has been fined Dh500,000 for causing damages to public property due to his reckless driving. The fine was calculated by Dubai Traffic Police in collaboration with RTA after assessing the losses incurred, reported ‘Al Khaleej’ Arabic daily.
Major-General Khamis Matar Al Mazeina, Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, said: “This type of irresponsible behaviour is not acceptable. This is the first time a reckless motorist is fined thus and legal proceedings against him will follow.”
He added that such behaviour not only causes material damage but also puts others’ lives in danger.
Meanwhile, Colonel Safi Mohair Al Mazroui, Director, General Department of Traffic, said that the department learnt of the video he had posted online about his stunts along Meydan road. The youngster was put under surveillance and it was observed that he was drifting intentionally causing noise, over-speeding and driving recklessly causing damage to public property, including erasing of yellow lines that separate lanes.
He said that the vehicle was impounded and the motorist was referred to competent authorities and legal action would be taken against him.
