A number of warehouses housing plastic materials in Al Musaffah area in Abu Dhabi caught fire on Sunday. The civil defence was at the site immediately and doused the blaze. No injuries have been reported.

Captain Abdullah Hamad Al Tamimi, Chief of Media and Public Relations Section, Directorate General of Civil Defence, Abu Dhabi, said the fire destroyed a big portion of the goods stored in the affected warehouses, as they contained plastic material, stationary and highly flammable material.

Investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the fire, he added.

Meanwhile, Colonel Abdullah Al Zaabi, Head of Strategy and Performance Development at the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate, urged warehouse owners to abide by storage safety rules and maintain cleanliness. He also stressed upon the importance of carrying out periodical maintenance for fire extinguishers to prevent fires.

No sooner was the incident reported that the civil defence team rushed to the site and brought the fire under control, he added.

The operations were overseen by Colonel Sheikh Mohammad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Director of Peripheral Regions Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police.
