Warning signs to know if your child has cancer

Ana - a childhood cancer initiative, which falls under Friends of Cancer Patients’ umbrella ‘Kashf’ for early detection of cancer, published a list of signs to know if children have cancer. 
 
This initiative aims to enhance the lives of paediatric cancer patients and their families, through the provision of care, as well as financial and moral support.
 
According to the latest statistics from the World Health Organisation (WHO), childhood cancer is the fourth most common cause of death among children under the age of 15.


 
Globally there are 160,000 new cases of childhood cancer a year, with 90,000 deaths of children under 15. Leukaemia and its related forms are the most prevalent childhood cancers.
 
Raising awareness and the importance of early cancer detection in children might be the key to save her/his life. The initiative gave seven signs you might notice in children that could save their life:
 
1- Pallor, bruising or bleeding, and general bone pain.

2- Lumps or swelling especially if it was without pain, fever, or any other signs of infection.

3- Unexplained weigh loss or fever, persistent cough or shortness of breathing, or sweating at night.

4- Eye changes; white pupil, squint, visual loss, bruising or swelling around the eyes.

5- Abdominal swelling.

6- Persistent headache, and vomiting

7- Limb or bone pain, and swelling without sings of infection
 
Ana, which means ‘I’ in English, has been specifically named thus to encourage affected children celebrate their individuality irrespective of their physical appearance.
