Watches, bags, pens: Dubai busts Dh34m fakes

Dubai Police have seized counterfeit goods worth Dh34 million during Ramadan, as part of a campaign launched in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development (DED).

Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander of Dubai Police for CID, said the large quantity of counterfeit goods was seized in just 15 days and he added that the campaign will continue intensively over the next few days leading up to the holidays.

“In this period the market is flooded with imitations,” he said.

Major General Al Mansouri said that Dubai Police take strict measures to monitor perpetrators of economic crimes in Dubai and the rest of the UAE, in addition to tracking these criminals in other countries.

Citing one example, Colonel Saleh bin Rashid , Deputy Director of the Anti-Economic Crimes explained that the port security team, in cooperation with the DED, raided an apartment and arrested three Asians with fake watches, women's handbags, accessories, pens and women's clothing with international branding.
