Truck overturns to block four lanes on highway formerly known as Emirates Road

From late afternoon on Wednesday, traffic was stuck on the Sheikh Mohammad bin Zyed Road, previously Emirates Road.

The cause of the jam was an accident involving a truck.

At 16:40pm Dubai Police tweeted that a truck had over-turned, blocking four lanes on the road.

Almost five hours later, motorists were still moving slowly. "I have been stuck for the past two hours," says Anas Daher, a Syrian who was attempting to make his way out to Dragon Mart.

"We have only started moving now. But I am going back home as soon as I can make a turn, it is too late now.

At 9.00pm Dubai Police tweeted: "The overturned truck on SMZ Road has been cleared and traffic is starting to flow normally, have a safe trip."

Traffic from Abu Dhabi in to Dubai and those seeking to go to the Northern Emirates for an early start to the long weekend were also stuck for hours in the jam.

Abu Mussa says: "It took me six hours to go from Abu Dhabi to Sharjah last night. The traffic on Emirates Road was just not moving."

I was moving from Abu Dhabi to Ras Al Khaimah that day, just after Global Village I had to take Exit no 44 and I was almost there just 5 km far, but unfortunately traffic was jammed & I also had a minor accident with trailer :( . Due to which I lost my 2 & half hours.

it's strange for me, when i entered Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road ( E311) from Al Khail Road there was no traffic going to Sharjah. later i realised the reasons.

I have missed my flight due to this traffic. I have stuck there for 3 hours, I was going to Sharjah airport, unfortunately I have missed the plane. How much stress I had you can not imagine. And I reached the airport but the company said sorry indeed I called them 2 times about this extraordinary traffic jam when I was on my way. And I had to came back from Sharjah airport to my home to Discovery gardens, it was a nightmare and cost me lots of money

I was coming too from Jabel Ali and stuck at Dubai Silicon so I took Silicon and then went on Al Ain - Dubai road and Straight towards Business Bay then Before Airport Tunnel I took Khawaneej and back on Emirates road towards sharjah :) 15 min late from my daily schedule.

I was stuck there as well but we didnt took much to stuck there but it was atleast one hour thirty minutes been stucked while coming from jebel Ali it was historical jam.
