The Munich Re Natural Hazards report also looks at tropical cyclones and volcanoes.

And while the earthquake threat is real, residents of the Emirates will be glad to know that according to the report there are no volcanoes – active or dormant in the country.

As for cyclones, the UAE will need to thank Oman for blocking off any such disasters arising from the Arabian Sea.

The cyclone threat for Oman is extremely high and that is precisely why the UAE is safe; because of the geographical topography of the area, Oman bears the brunt.

One might recall the relative damage done to the northern stretch of the UAE on the Arabian Sea when Cyclone Gone struck. Oman was devastated in comparison.

So, go easy on the cyclone insurance. Except if you are moving to Muscat.
