A woman who was found guilty of abusing a man through WhatsApp is to be retried in line with a ruling by the UAE’s top court.
The Court of First Instance had convicted the woman and fined her Dh50,000, prompting her to appeal the sentence.
The Court of Appeals slashed the fine to Dh10,000 but the woman appealed again with the Federal Supreme Court (FSC).
“The woman appealed the ruling on the grounds that the court is not authorized to deal with her case and demanded trial in the emirate where she lives,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.
It said the FSC accepted the woman’s argument and ordered a retrial of her case but it did not mention in which emirate.
