Muammar Gaddafi Mohammed El Noor, a resident of Khorfakkan, wants to change his name to express his solidarity with the people of Libya.

Muammar Gaddafi, a Sudanese, now hates being a namesake of the Libyan dictator. He has started the long legal procedure for the name change, reported 'Emarat Al Youm'.

The 40-year-old understands complications a name change will have on his family, nevertheless he is determined to go ahead.

Recalling how he was named as a child, the Sudanese man said the Libyan leader was a pride of the Arabs at the time when he was born and so his father named him Gaddafi.

He studied at the Naval Academy of Jamahiriya in Libya for six years and had good relationships with the Libyans. In fact, one of the dictator's sons  Hannibal was his classmate.

The Sudanese man recalls how his popular name saved him on many occassions when he would go scot-free for pulling up pranks. He even had the same hairstyle as that of the dictator.

Now his family, including his mother and sister, and friends are urging him to change his name, he said.
